Your donations in kind tomorrow in the Ukraine

In the meantime, more and more news is reaching us from Ukraine, from people who have no food, hygiene articles, medicine and practical equipment for everyday life.

Many are fleeing to the less competitive regions of the country. Since March 3rd there has been a "humanitarian corridor" that we started together with many aid organizations and private initiatives. Thanks to our infrastructure, we are able to deposit your donations in kind in western Ukraine within a day. Thanks to long-standing local relationships, the support of the government and local aid organizations, we can reach over 2,000 storage points throughout Ukraine within a very short time. It is particularly important to us that your donations arrive where they are needed.

This is how the practical help looks like in four steps:

1.   Choose your own storage/collection location

It is best to collect your donations in kind at a location you have defined. Depending on the amount of things to be collected, a garage or a storage room with a loading ramp is advantageous. Possibly also offer the possibility for people to drive in directly with you.

2.   Pack donations in kind

In order to get the donations in kind across the border and to our warehouse there quickly and effectively, it is important that you pack properly. The better the boxes are prepared, the faster and easier the targeted distribution in Ukraine will work.

packing list:

only specific things are needed, so it's important not to pack anything outside of our packing list.  There are 4 product categories (see packing list; download *click on buttons*):

- Groceries (e.g. pasta, rice, biscuits,...)

- Hygiene items (e.g. shampoo, soap, towels,..)

- Medicine (e.g. painkillers, insulin, antibiotics,...)

- Accessories (e.g. pots, camping gear, generators,…)

It is important that the objects are not mixed up with each other. That means, for example, only noodles in one box and only rice in another box.

Be sure to label the outside of what's on the inside. In this way we can ensure a quick and smooth process at the border. Ultimately, your donations in kind reach the people, churches and organizations in Ukraine effectively and the distribution is sustainable.

3.   Truck / van loaded

When you have collected all the donations in kind, load them into your truck or van. Please make sure that you load correctly. Secure your boxes and pallets for transport. If you pack on pallets, wrap them in foil to protect them. Here it is important not to mix the categories food, hygiene, medicine and equipment.

4.   Departure to our central warehouse in Poland or Ukraine

It is easiest if you deliver the donations in kind to our central warehouse in Poland, as car insurance companies are currently removing Ukraine from their insurance policies due to the war. For this reason, German freight forwarders are currently generally not able to drive to the Ukraine.

Once your truck/transporter has arrived at our Polish central warehouse, Ukrainian trucks will bring the donations in kind to Ukraine. Since the situation can change at any time, we will remain very flexible here.

FAQs:

How can I support the campaign?
Encourage neighbors and friends to join you in buying and collecting donations in kind. If you have collected some donations for emergency aid in Ukraine, we can be your partner to see that the donations reach the people who really need your help. We are currently building a complete logistics center in the war zone. We can unload over 20 trucks a day. We distribute donations in kind across the country through our network of local churches. In addition, we still need vans, cars, IT systems and office equipment for the Ukrainian population or large amounts of special donations in kind. You are welcome to make a donation to us.

Where can I drop off my donations in kind?
It is best if you do your own collection campaign in the church, school, club, etc. After the collection campaign, you pack the donations according to the concept that we need for the import. You can also bring the donations directly to our Polish central warehouse in a large van. In the case of deliveries by truck, it is important that the donations in kind are stored on pallets.

I don't have a van or truck available?
There are now many car rental companies and trucking companies that support the transport of refugees and relief supplies. Partly free of charge or for petrol money. If you have never sent anything with a freight forwarder, it is best to call the nearest freight forwarder and explain what you intend to do. They will be happy to support you.

How do I know that the donations in kind are really going where they are needed?
Unfortunately, there are currently many questionable collection campaigns. Since we collect many donations in kind ourselves, it is important to us to ensure that the help really gets to where it is needed. We work with various church denominations and distribute donations in kind to over 2,000 collection points across the country. It is important to us that your donations in kind are not sold later, but end up as help where they belong.

How can I collect enough donations in kind for a truck?
Encourage neighbors and friends to join you in buying and collecting donations in kind. Start an appeal at your church, work, or school.

I would like to take refugees with me to Germany on the way back from Poland:
There are a few collection points along the border where refugees are cared for and are looking for travel and accommodation in the EU. If you want to help refugees to find a place in Germany, feel free to contact us.

What is the legal status?
After consultation with you, we share your data with people from Ukraine. There is no contractual relationship and no payments are made.

What happens to my entered data?
The data is managed by Holy Spirit Night eV exclusively for this campaign. We are starting this campaign with a simple database, but intend to transfer the data to software that is customary for such purposes as part of order data processing.
